Youth Community Service Committee

The New Kent County Youth Community Service Committee:
  • Provides a place where youth organizations across New Kent County can come together to collaborate and provide volunteer resources for community service projects and events.
  • Gives middle and high school students in grades 6-12 an opportunity to participate in civic, leadership and community service programs to help develop leadership ability and instill a commitment of community service and life-long civic responsibility.

The Board of Supervisors recognizes that community service activities teach youth the importance of giving back to the community and leadership skills such as working with others, problem solving, and decision making by taking ownership of projects that focus on the betterment of our County.

Each District Supervisor shall appoint up to three (3) members to the Committee.  Appointees do not have to reside in the district from which they were appointed.  The Board will also appoint up to three adult coordinators which may or may not be a County staff person.  The County Administrator, or his designee, shall provide staff support to the Committee.

Each member shall serve a one-year term.  The adult coordinators shall serve three-year terms.  Vacancies shall be filled by the Board of Supervisors for the unexpired term only.  Members shall serve without compensation, but may, at the discretion of the Board of Supervisors, be reimbursed for expenses necessarily incurred in the performance of Committee events and activities.

The Committee serves at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors and is chartered by Resolution R-10-21 adopted on May 26, 2021.
