Wastewater Treatment
New Kent Public Utilities provides wastewater treatment services to approximately 1,000 customers County-wide at the recently renovated Parham Landing Wastewater Treatment Plant. The plant employs trained and certified operators, along with state-of-the-art treatment processes to treat sewage prior to discharging to the reclaimed water (irrigation) facility or the Pamunkey River. Nutrient discharge to the river (and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay) is permitted and closely monitored by DEQ, under the Virginia Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit Program (VPDES).

The upgraded plant was designed and constructed with an eye towards the future development of the County, and has ample operating and permit capacity to accommodate those needs. The addition of the reclaimed water system helps minimize the impact that future development has on the Chesapeake Bay.
