Registration

The Constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote.

Application for voter registration may be made in person or by mail. Mail-in voter registration applications are available at the Heritage Library in Providence Forge and at the County Administration Building in New Kent. Voter Registration is also available at all DMV offices and at Public Assistance Agencies.

 Registration Deadlines

  • General and Primary Elections: 22 days before election date
  • Special Election: 13 days before election date
  • Special Election called by the Governor: 7 days before election date

 Voting by Absentee Ballot

In-person voting is available in the Voter Registration Office during normal office hours, and until 5 p.m. on the Saturday preceding any Primary Election and the two Saturdays preceding any General Election (§ 24.2-701 and § 24.2-703). For more information contact the General Registrar.
